The Second- Child

According to Dr. P.Nwadinigwe, in his book :Fundamentals of Individual Counselling Theories,  "The second child in the family 'wants to equal' and at times better the standard set by the older child."

Often, second- borns have a quest for equality, more independence, ambition and interest in achieveing superiority in areas the older child is inadequate;  especially where he believes the older child to be successful.  As such, he might set unattainables goals for himself which might lead to failure.

Having to work their way around an older, stronger sibling tends to make second-borns diplomatic and good at negotiating.

They also profit from the opportunity to observe the success and short comings of the older child.
